Sue Goold
Deacon

I grew up in a Christian family attending Church weekly. However it wasn’t until I was in my late twenties after a long gap, I really came to have a personal relationship with God and was baptised at CKBC in 1989. I’ve never looked back! Becoming a Christian has given me a toolkit to cope with life’s many challenges which in turn can help me help others. Looking back I now realise how active God has been in my life. I am continuing learning about Him and still feel a novice most of the time!

I am married to Don and have been blessed with 2 adopted children and now 3 small grandchildren.

I have been nursing since 1975 and recently retired.  Now I feel I can devote more time to becoming a deacon, continuing to use many of the qualities and skills developed within my career.

My main focus areas are on Fellowship and Hospitality. I will continue to help organise the Church family holiday, facilitate catering needs, be involved in Messy Church as well as other practical activities that are needed.

Minister

I have the honour of being called by God and the church members to be the minister here at Charlton Kings Baptist Church.

I am husband to Vicky and dad to Ollie and Daniel, as well as an avid reader, armchair sports fan (particularly cricket, football and rugby), eclectic vinyl collector, and an unashamed nerd about most things sci-fi (Doctor Who in particular).

I’m a “child of the vicarage”, spending my formative years in Birmingham, Jos in Nigeria, and the Swindon area. Having made a commitment to follow Jesus at a Scripture Union Camp, I felt the first nudges towards full-time ministry while volunteering with the local Youth for Christ centre in my early twenties. Having previously moved from the Anglican Church to a Baptist Church in search of teenage romance, I found myself more aligned to the function and worship there (as well as ultimately finding Vicky), getting baptised in 2004 as a statement of intent to follow that route into ordained ministry.

Eight years later, I finally started my formal training, following 14 years of working in behind-the-scenes roles for the NHS.

After three years blending study at Regent’s Park College in Oxford with part-time ministry in Lechlade on the Gloucestershire border, we followed the call of God in 2015 to move eastwards for nine years of fruitful ministry at Clare Baptist Church in Suffolk. Coming back west in 2024 was a clear sign from God to move to a new ministry, as well as more familiar territory.

My ministry is one that includes partnership building and collaboration, helping to engage with people and organisations across the wider community, seeing where God is moving us together in support, service, and mission.

My desire is for everyone within the wider family of the church to know that they are valued by God and the community, that they are accompanied by God through the whole of life, and that they have a special and unique place in the kingdom.

Secretary & Administrator

Hello! I am Sarah, I have been worshipping at CKBC for over 20 years. I am married to Ian and have 2 teenage boys who have been through Sunday Club and now attend the Young Adults Bible Study.

I am the Administrator at CKBC and have enjoyed this role for over 10 years. I may have met you already when booking parties in the church hall! Being part of the Church in this way has inspired me to help keep the Church informed and move it forward with the Leadership Team to ensure we provide appropriately and remain relevant for our congregation as well as our community in Charlton Kings. We want to be a shining light for Jesus in CK and our adjacent Coffee House, Kings, is a large part of this mission.

I have worked as a primary school teacher and co-ordinater of Cheltenham Street Pastors - An ecumenical mission in Cheltenham town centre at the weekends, helping those who are vulnerable and ensuring they are safe and return home without harm. Being the Church in action on the streets showing God's unjudgmental love to anyone.

If you are interested in worshipping with us you can be assured of a warm welcome, we are a small friendly church who enjoy meeting new people.

Treasurer

I have been a member of Charlton Kings Baptist Church since 1972 when I transferred from Cambray Baptist Church and took over as Girls’ Brigade Leader, where I still serve as Team Leader.

I was brought up in a loving Christian family and made a decision to follow Jesus at the age of 14.  I am passionate about overseas mission and following God’s calling, have served on overseas BMS Summer Teams, BMS Church teams and Girls Brigade FIZZ Teams in Nigeria, Thailand, Kolkata, South Africa and Uganda for 19 years.

I serve as Treasurer at CKBC.

I am married to Brian, and we have 2 married sons and 4 grandchildren.

I am also involved in the worship group and assist with Messy Church.

I retired from the University of Gloucestershire at the Park Campus in 2023 where I was the co-ordinator and administrator for the Sustainability team.

Children’s and Families’ Worker

My name is Melody and I am the Children’s and Families’ Worker at CKBC.

You will find me organising the Sunday morning teaching for our children and teenagers, helping out in Girls’ Brigade, playing with the toddlers at Sonbeams and chatting with parents and providing a listening ear.

My role also includes organising our regular Messy Church afternoons and  any other activities involving children and families. I have been coming to CKBC since I was a child myself and love being a member of the church family.

I am also a Deacon and the Safeguarding Trustee.

My background is in teaching and I spent over 25 years teaching in Primary Schools and Early Years Settings.

I have a heart for families and enjoying coming alongside people as they navigate the joys and challenges of raising a family.

I gave my life and heart to Jesus on a Girls’ Brigade camp when I was 14 years old and have been a follower of him ever since. I long for others to experience the joy and peace that comes from a relationship with our loving Heavenly Father.

Deacon

My name is Leanda and I have been attending CKBC since the age of five. I was born and raised in Charlton Kings, attended Sunday School and Girls’ Brigade and I was baptised here in 2002.

After qualifying as a teacher in 2001, I spent a year teaching in an orphanage in Romania. After returning to teach at Charlton Kings Junior School, I set up the charity Heal Romania, which provides education for children living in orphanages.

My husband, two children and I now live in a boarding house, taking care of children who board full time. We also teach at the school.

I became a Christian on Girls’ Brigade camp as a teenager and since that day I have known God walking with me. There have been many ups and downs along the way, but God has been good and has held me up through it all.

Deacon

I've been attending CKBC since the age of 11 when my Dad moved to Charlton Kings to start his ministry here.

Also, he baptised me here.

I enjoyed attending Boy's Brigade and the IY youth group, which really helped develop my faith.

I am married and my wife and I have a daughter, and we all enjoy attending CKBC.

I am now part of the diaconate with the fabrics of the building being my main calling.

My Christian faith plays a big part in my life as I try to live my life in the way Jesus teaches us. I also firmly believe that my faith, with the help of my family’s prayers, has kept me safe and protected in life, especially in my working life as a roofer!

Deacon

I returned to CKBC in 2016, having previously been a member here when our children were small. I am married to Barrie and have four ‘grown up children’ and two granddaughters.

We originally came from London in 1980. I am now retired but worked for many years as a nurse and midwife. After leaving nursing I volunteered and then worked for the charity CCP with people at risk of homelessness and those with mental health problems.

I was asked to come on to the diaconate in 2025 to represent prayer. I have been very fortunate to be involved in many and varied prayer groups, prophetic groups and prayer ministries and am interested in the different forms of prayer used by people in this country and abroad. I love the arts – art, music, theatre, writing – and love to experiment with overlapping them with prayer. I believe that prayer is meant to be incorporated into everything that we do.

I have had many other roles in churches – leading small groups, worship and youth for many years but in all things my heart’s desire is to know Jesus more and to see his kingdom come in Charlton Kings.

Deacon

I came to Cheltenham in 1979 and have been here ever since, eventually marrying and starting a family. I was brought up in a Christian home but like many drifted away during my 20’s and 30’s. It was not until later on in life that I realised that something was missing and became an active member of Charlton Kings Baptist Church.

From there I have never looked back and now put God at the centre of every aspect of my life. It’s amazing what can be done if you put your complete trust in the hands of the Lord. He will always deliver. I have enjoyed every minute of my spiritual development and it’s amazing when you explore Gods word and adapt this to what is happening in your life today.

I was asked to come onto the Deaconate of CKBC in 2025 to help the Church with my gifting of working in Construction Finance and Contract Management. During my period serving I have assisted in the redevelopment of the Vine into Kings Coffee Shop, the refurbishment of the Church Sanctuary, general maintenance around the Church and the redevelopment of the Church Frontage.

I have also been to India as part of a Church Team helping street kids.
