India has an alarming rate of poverty. Kolkata stands as India's poorest city, with sprawling slums and decaying infrastructure. Those most affected by this abject poverty are children. No one knows how many hundreds of thousands of children are born into the hopelessness of extreme poverty in Calcutta. Fortunately, there are people who care, people who venture into the slums to offer help and hope.
Subir and Enouk Roy began the Good News Children’s Education mission twenty-five ago, and on February 5th they celebrated the 25-year anniversary. Their ministries specifically target children, trying to positively impact the future of India by rescuing children for the hopelessness of extreme poverty. To accomplish this goal the Roys have started over 10 Christian Schools, 2 mobile schools, a baby care centre, and 2 hostels. They are now in the process of building a hospital and have just completed building a clinic.
